Fine tiger striped maple blanks Ready to be CNC machined
A few years back I made a few dozen 1/3 scale Lancaster school rifles.See https://hamlertools.smugmug.com/Hobbies/Minature-Lancaster-Rifle/ The rifles have long been sold out and I regularly receive request to make more. I had wanted to make a kit for the 1/3 scale but the time and fixtures required to produce the stock prevented this from happening. For old people like myself it took a few years to hone my computer solid modeling skills to CNC machine the stocks. After completing a 2/5 scale model of a Colt 1911 I had honed my skills to where I was ready to tackle the drawing and machining of a longrifle stock.Included in this folder shows two methods that worked for me ..just like drawing the stock model there is no right or wrong way as long as the desired results are achieved. The same applies to fixture the blank stock, I am sure others have different methods that work for them ,I welcome any recommendations or feedback.
An old machinist once said the difference between a machinist and a smashinist is to fixture properly and let the machine do the work.
